A Letter to My Future Self

Dear Dana .

I am sending this note today to tell you about your future.  Don’t panic, I’m not a fortune teller. I don’t know about actual events but I can tell you what I do know.

I will start off by stating the obvious. The days that will come will not be easy, but then again, this is probably not news to you because you learned from your past that life is never easy. I can also assure you that you will not always get what you want. But then again, you already know that from a past filled with instances in which you didn’t get what you want .

There will be times when life will be unfair or when the world will laugh in your face. You will, at times be misunderstood, misjudged, and mistreated. There will be chances for your heart to be battered, broken and worse yet it could even be taken out of your chest and stepped on, but I call these unfortunate experiences  chances because every disappointment leads to a new discovery, even if that discovery is something as basic as understanding the traits you don’t want in your life.

There will be days where you will feel unapproved of and others you will feel de-motivated. There will be days in which you will want to give up, and others you will want to withdraw into solitude. So, just be sure that your future won’t be paved with rainbows and unicorns. Again, you could have guessed that on your own because the past wasn’t paved with rainbows and unicorns either.

However I can confirm to you that you have nothing to worry about, because all the challenges you face will not stop you from coming out a winner. By the time you receive this note, you would have seen it all, done it all, and survived it all. Remember that you were hurt before and you made it. You experienced the death of loved ones and you made it. You experienced bullying in the workplace and you managed to make it. You experienced good finances, bad finances, the tears , the laughs, the shouts, and the conflicts, and guess what, you made it.

By the time you get this note you would have sat with yourself and realized that with each one of these experiences you grew, you learned something new. Sure, you lost a piece of your bright eyed innocence with each instance but you replaced that loss with a new piece from the puzzle of wisdom .

So whatever life throws in your face, just tell it to “bring it on”. By the time you get to this point in your life you would have understood that life is not a fairytale. You know it’s hard but you also know that you will be fine. Be confident that it will all work out, because we all make it in the end.

Just know you will be great because life has a way of ensuring that we all get the end result that best fits our needs. In the end, you will only get the result that is meant to be. Life always has a way of working out just as it is supposed to. So, to my future self,  I say don’t worry you made it before there is nothing stopping you from making it now, tomorrow, or in many years to come.

With Love,

Dana
